Thank you for sharing this thoughtful reflection. I really appreciate the reminder that nostalgia can make us look backward so much that we miss what God is doing in our lives right now. There is nothing wrong with remembering the blessings of the past, but we should not allow yesterday to become more important than the living Christ today. Jesus said in John 6:35, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger. Our deepest satisfaction cannot come from memories, traditions, or past experiences, but from Jesus Himself. Philippians 3:13-14 reminds us to forget those things which are behind and reach forward to what is ahead, pressing toward the goal in Christ. Sometimes God calls us to release something familiar so that we can receive something greater from Him. Isaiah 43:19 says, Behold, I will do a new thing; now it shall spring forth. I also think about Israel in the wilderness, remembering the food they had in Egypt while forgetting that God was leading them toward the Promised Land. Numbers 11:5 shows how easily we can romanticize the past when the present becomes difficult. May God help us appreciate what He has done without becoming trapped in what used to be. Psalm 90:14 says, O satisfy us early with thy mercy; that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. Every day is an opportunity to receive His grace afresh and walk faithfully with Him. May we not trade the living Bread for memories of yesterday, but continue seeking Jesus, trusting His provision, and following wherever He leads. Amen.

Thank you for this! I was struck by remembering how good we had it as slaves. We can be so foolish and unthankful. May we all be so overwhelmed with His love and daily care for us that we do not insult Him. Such a blessing to read this this morning.
