Brother this reminder shows that all of us live in the same tension broken yet beloved fallen yet forgiven God already knows the downstairs places of our hearts and still His mercy comes running toward us The Psalmist says Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life Psalm 23:6 God doesn’t wait for us to climb out of the cellar He steps into it with us just as Christ stepped into our world of sin and sorrow Paul understood this battle when he said For I do not do the good I want but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing Romans 7:19 Yet immediately he looks up and says Thanks be to God who delivers me through Jesus Christ our Lord” Romans 7:25 The struggle is real but so is the Savior who meets us in it And God never despises our weakness He says My grace is sufficient for you for my power is made perfect in weakness 2 Corinthians 12:9 Even when shame makes us hide His mercy comes downstairs to lift us up reminding us that A bruised reed he will not break Isaiah 42:3 Sometimes we wonder if His patience has run out but Scripture says Where sin increased grace abounded all the more Romans 5:20 That is the gospel mercy entering the darkest corners of our hearts to bring us back into the light Even when we feel stuck between confession and concealment Jesus says I am the light of the world whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life John 8:12 He meets us lifts us and walks with us every step Take heart my brother God does not abandon us in the struggle He joins us in it and His mercy will keep running downstairs for you always

“No one after lighting a lamp puts it in a cellar or under a basket, but on a stand, so that those who enter may see the light."

He brings us to His banquet hall and looks on us with love. He delivers us to the church, announcing to all, "He is alive, He lives!" Great is thy faithfulness, thy Son of the Living God! Forever and ever! Amen.
